Where I Stand on Illegal Immigration
Tennessee needs growth,
but growth must be controlled and legal.

Illegal immigration is both a federal and a state issue. The Federal government has specific reasons to be involved in stopping illegal immigration. The states also have reasons to be concerned and involved in controlling illegal immigration: it is costly to the current citizens and illegal immigration is just that, illegal.

For every man, woman and child who move to our state, a cost is brought with them. The taxpayers pay $9,200 to educate every child, nearly $2,000 per person for healthcare and approximately $1,800 for law enforcement -- immigration has a price. Tennessee needs growth, but growth must be controlled and legal.

I have made illegal immigration a legislative priority. My goal is to control illegal immigration into Tennessee by addressing the problem at the employer level. I have signed onto and co-sponsored legislation that will penalize the employer who knowingly hires illegal immigrants. It goes with out saying that the employer is only responsible for those who they directly hire. Other legislation that I have co-sponsored is: English in the work place, Tennessee driver’s licenses for citizens only and photo identification to vote so as to keep illegal immigrants from voting.
