Where I Stand on Crime
We must get tougher
on those who drive while under the influence.

The protection of our citizens is one of the most important functions of state government and the primary goal is the punishment of those convicted of violating the laws of our State.

Over the past several years I am proud to have sponsored or co-sponsored many legislative bills which protected us and also provided for true punishment to those offending individuals. One specific bill that I co-sponsored last year (which successfully passed), was a bill that is similar to Jessica’s law, but was stricter on repeat sexual child offenders and according to the association of district attorneys, a more effective bill in stopping child molesters and tracking these individuals. One other bill that I co-sponsored is a bill that increased jail time for those who committed a crime while using a gun.

D.U.I.

We must get tougher on those who drive while under the influence. I am proud to be a sponsor of an overall bill which would not allow open containers in cars, would require convicted D.U.I. offenders to install breath analyzers in their automobiles before it would start and longer jail time for those convicted driving while under the influence.

Our 2nd amendment rights

I am a proud defender of our right to own guns. I think this right is the second most important right, second only to the right to own private property. If these two rights are ever lost, all other rights that we have will quickly be lost as well. I was one of the sponsors to the legislation which was called the “castle doctrine”. This bill made it clear to Tennessee judges that you have a right to defend yourself and your family, with any force necessary from anyone who is threatening the safety of your home.
